Reflections Contest 2023
While the 2022 contest is closed, anyone considering entering their art in the 2023 contest, please feel free to explore below the rules and guidelines. The next contest will take place in November-December 2023.
The PTA Reflections Arts Program provides an opportunity for student creative work, inspired by a designated theme, to be recognized at the local, district, state, and national levels.
Students can use this contest as a means to display their creativity in one of 6 categories: Visual Arts, Literature, Music Composition, Dance Choreography, Photography, and Film Production. Each entry must reflect this year’s theme, Show Your Voice, which allows a broad interpretation for you to create a really personal reflection in your chosen category!
Guidelines
Submissions: Students may submit original artwork in one of six areas:
- Dance/choreography
- Literature
- Photography
- Film production
- Music composition
All work should be specifically created for this competition with this theme. All entries must be submitted using the electronic Student Entry Form. Please review general entry rules.
Physical artwork will be collected again this year for Visual Arts and Photography categories. These entries need to be physically dropped off in the art portfolio at the Carlmont Library by the deadline, as well as completing the electronic Student Entry Form.
NOTE: Student school emails will not work for the Google Form. Please use a personal email for the entry submission. For any questions, please email CarlmontReflections@gmail.com.
Recognition: Artworks are submitted first to school-level PTAs, where they are recognized, celebrated and judged by four grade-level divisions, while a non-judged Special Artists division celebrates student artists with special needs. Participants will receive a certificate of participation and a printed booklet of the writing and imagery of the show. A copy of this booklet and a show of the artwork and literature will go in the school library. A reception will be held after the new year to view these, as well as video and music entries.
The next step is for the School PTAs to choose a selection of entries to be judged by local PTA units, which are then sent on to councils, and then districts, for consideration. The final artworks submitted to California State PTA by districts are considered for Awards of Excellence or Awards of Merit. Award of Excellence entries then go on to represent California in the final National PTA judging round.
State-level Award of Excellence honorees receive:
- The opportunity to showcase their artwork at the California State PTA Convention
- Prizes including an Award of Excellence medal, certificate and a $100 savings bond presented on stage at the convention
- An expense-paid trip for the award-winning student and one parent/guardian to the convention.
